Dinner at Point2 2013-06-18

I think it’s now safe to say that spring is here, maybe even summer. Time for the next gathering of women in the Saskatoon science and technology community. On June 18, we will be holding a potluck dinner at Point2 (3301 8th Street E) in their recreation room in the lower level.

Our speaker is Janice Tranberg, Vice President of Western Canada at CropLife Canada. She’ll speak about this:

Science education teaches us to ask questions. Do we bring this knowledge into our everyday lives? In today’s world of Facebook, Twitter, Google, The Doctors, The Star-Phoenix – are we asking ourselves the tough questions? Where do these people get their information? Are they credible? And still further, are we teaching our families and friends to ask these important questions?

After working in a field fraught with contention – agriculture biotechnology – I have learned to question everything I hear and read. As a woman in science, I believe it is critical to use the 5 steps of the scientific method to make decisions in our daily lives.

Plan to arrive by 6:00 to set up your potluck dish and mingle. We’ll start eating around 6:20, and Janice’s talk will start no later than 7:00. We should be wrapped up around 8:00-8:15.

If you didn’t receive the registration form via email, you can sign up here. We are limited to 40 attendees, and each person must sign up separately.

Men and nursing children are welcome. Men must be invited as a guest of one of the attendees, and must also register at the link above.

Hope to see you there for good food and fascinating discussion.
